Environmental Kuznets Curve and the Pollution-Halo/Haven Hypotheses: An Investigation in Brazilian Municipalities

چکیده
There is much discussion on the non-linear relationship between economic growth and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Additionally, effects of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) environment are ambiguous, as both beneficial (i.e., pollution-halo) harmful pollution-haven) were found. Therefore, literature presents no consensus either these topics. This especially problematic for developing regions, regions represent growing economies interested in receiving foreign investments, their CO2-related research limited. study aims to understand impacts FDI CO2 emissions São Paulo state, Brazil. To perform this study, a unique dataset regional was built, 592 municipalities included. The analyses combine linear estimations, results suggest Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita emissions, along with negative association CO2. Finally, discusses possible policy implications contributes international literature.

Dynamics of China’s regional development and pollution: an investigation into the Environmental Kuznets Curve
This paper addresses the existence of an Environmental Kuznets Curve for China, using a sample of 30 regions, covering the period 1982–1997. The types of pollution included are wastewater, waste gas, and solid waste. We consider the development of the sources of pollution in a pooled cross-section analysis with pollution in absolute levels, in per capita terms, and relative to real Gross Region...
متن کاملAn Empirical Investigation of Environmental Kuznets Curve in Nigeria
The possibility of the existence of environmental Kuznet curve (EKC) has been debated extensively in the literature. The reality of EKC is that, by pursuing growth in income, environmental objectives can be simultaneously accomplished without initiating extra intervention tools. Various studies have been conducted on the existence of EKC without any consensus. Therefore, in this paper, the auth...
متن کاملUrban Transport Pollution: Revisiting the Environmental Kuznets Curve
An inverted-U relationship between GDP per capita and three urban transport-related emissions is tested (using data from 84 cities). Per capita urban transport-related emissions of CO, VHC, and NOx increase and then decline at observed income levels—a result driven by a similar inverted-U relationship between income and emissions technology (i.e., emissions per passengerkm). However, for urban ...
متن کاملThe Environmental Kuznets Curve:
1. Introduction The environmental Kuznets curve is a hypothesized relationship between various indicators of environmental degradation and income per capita. In the early stages of economic growth degradation and pollution increase, but beyond some level of income per capita (which will vary for different indicators) the trend reverses, so that at high-income levels economic growth leads to env...

cointegration Classical regression analysis assumes that the error term in a regression is normally and independently distributed. An extreme violation of this condition is when the error term is a random walk. Such a regression is termed a spurious regression and the results are not reliable. It usually indicates that a required variable with random walk behavior has been omitted from the mode...
